We carry a good range of vegan and vegetarian-friendly supplements, and we know it matters to be confident about what you're taking. Here's how suitability is labelled on our products and the answers to the questions we get asked most often.

How to check suitability on any product
Every product page lists suitability information in the product details section - look for "Suitable for vegans" or "Suitable for vegetarians" in the product specification. If a product is not labelled as vegan or vegetarian, assume it contains animal-derived ingredients. If you're unsure about a specific product and can't find the information on the page, email us at support@troohealthcare.com and we'll confirm.

Common questions about specific products.

Omega-3: is there a vegan option? Standard fish oil omega-3 supplements are not vegan or vegetarian - they're derived from marine fish. We do offer a plant-based omega-3 option derived from algae, which provides DHA and EPA in the same way that fish oil does (fish get their omega-3 from algae in the first place). Look for our Vegan Omega 3 product in the range.

Vitamin B12: is it vegan? B12 is found naturally only in animal products, but the B12 used in supplements is almost always produced by bacterial fermentation - making it suitable for vegans. Our Vegan B12 supplement is specifically formulated and labelled as vegan-friendly.

Vitamin D3: is it vegan? Standard D3 (cholecalciferol) is derived from lanolin - a substance from sheep's wool - which makes it unsuitable for vegans. We stock a vegan vitamin D3, which is derived from pine bark. If you need a vegan D3, look specifically for our Vegan Vitamin D3 product rather than the standard D3 tablets.

Zinc: is it vegetarian? Our Zinc 15mg capsules are suitable for vegetarians. Check the product page for full suitability details as formulations can change.

Marine collagen: is it vegan? No - marine collagen is derived from fish. There is no vegan equivalent of collagen as a direct supplement; collagen is an animal protein. If you're interested in skin or joint health as a vegan, vitamin C is the most relevant nutrient to consider, as it contributes to normal collagen formation in the body. We do have a specialist vegan hair, skin and nails formula which would be perfect for your needs.

Capsules vs tablets: which are vegan? Tablets are generally vegan-friendly. Capsules can be made from either gelatine (animal-derived, not vegan or vegetarian) or HPMC (a plant-derived alternative that is vegan-friendly). Our product pages specify the capsule type - look for "vegetarian capsules" or "vegan capsules" in the product details.

General rule of thumb. If a product is labelled as vegan, it is also vegetarian. Products labelled only as vegetarian may contain ingredients not suitable for vegans (such as gelatine or lanolin-derived D3).
